Since coming from Scotland to Canada in 1957 Dr. Glen Caldwell, has made outstanding contributions to the sciences of stratigraphy and paleontology, particularly to those pertaining to the Cretaceous System of the Western Interior of North America. His meticulous and critical approach to geological research and to science in general has earned him respect and admiration among his colleagues in Canada and the United States. His advice on nomenclatorial and editorial policy is much sought after and has led him to active participation in several national and international committees of geological organizations. Dr. Caldwell's reputation as a geologist of note is not only spread through his writings, which are substantial, but also through his many well-trained students. Beyond Dr. Caldwell's extensive geological knowledge lies an admirable administrative ability and wide cultural scope in literature, art, and music.

Mireille Calle-Gruber's work represents a major contribution to the areas of the poetics of the French novel, the French feminist novel, and more specifically to the area of the study of the 'nouveau roman'. Her book on "L'Effet fiction. De l'illusion romanesque" is a detailed analysis of the complex relationship between the novelistic text and the strategies of reading it implies. Her books on Michel Butor, on Hélène Cixous, on Claude Ollier, are all innovative works which lead to the methodological renewal of literary studies through a dialectical form of literary criticism. Mireille Calle-Gruber is a world-ranking scholar, an excellent researcher and a very distinguished teacher.

Dr. William Callahan's pre-eminent work in the field of Spanish history, and in particular of Spanish Church history, spans more than three decades and is remarkable not only for its superb quality but for its prodigious quantity. Historians who master a second language and culture to the degree that Dr. Callahan does, offer to their field a special perceptivity and depth of understanding which is rare and extremely valuable. The fact that much of his work has been translated into Spanish is indicative of the value which his colleagues attach to his careful research and his clear judgements.
Prof. Donald Calne

Dr. Calne has focused his research on Parkinson's disease and related disorders. He introduced the first synthetic dopamine agonist as treatment, and was the first to observe latent damage in the brain before symptoms of Parkinsonism appear. In 1998 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, and last year he gained the highest honour bestowed by the Canadian Medical Association, the F.G.N. Starr Gold Medal.
Stephen Calvert

Calvert has distinguished himself in the field of marine geochemistry by focussing on diagenesis, the chemical and mineralogical transformation of sediments, a crucial step in global biogeochemical cycles. He has explained the transformation of diatomaceous sediments into chert; his account of the formation of ferromanganese nodules that blanket much of the ocean floor is by now widely accepted. His recent work has focussed on the evolution (possibly into petroleum rocks) of organic-rich sediments under anoxic conditions. Calvert has also been an extraordinarily dynamic and influential proponent of marine sciences in Canada and has brought marine geochemistry into the mainstream of Canadian oceanography.

Aurélie Campana is professor of political science at Université Laval and has held the Canada Research Chair on Conflicts and Terrorism since 2007. David A. Campbell, Professor of Classics at the University of Victoria, B.C., is internationally acknowledged as a leading authority on ancient Greek Lyric Poetry. His achievements as an editor and commentator have been established by his "Greek Lyric Poetry" (London, 1967), now the standard university text in this field in the English-speaking world, and as a textual critic and translator by the first volume of "Greek Lyric", (1982) - (for the Loeb Classical Library); volume II, (1988), volume III, (1991), volume IV, (1992), and volume V, (1993) - now a complete set. His abilities as a literary critic and philologian have also been shown by his many articles and by his book, "The Golden Lyre: The Themes of the Greek Lyric Poets" (London, 1983).

Pierre Camu, Montréalais de naissance, maître ès arts, licencié ès lettres, docteur en philosophie, a poursuivi ses études supérieures à la Faculté des lettres de l'Université de Montréal et à l'Université John Hopkins de Baltimore. Géographe au ministère des mines et relevés techniques du gouvernement canadien de 1949 à 1956, professeur de géographie à l'Université Laval de 1956 à 1960, vice-président de l'Administration de la voie du Saint-Laurent en 1960, M. Camu devient président en 1965 jusqu'en 1973. Il sera par la suite président de l'Association canadienne des radiodiffuseurs (1973-1977), du CRTC (1977-1979), de la Société maritime March limitée (1979-1984), puis vice-président de Lavalin Inc (1984-1992) avant de prendre sa retraite en 1992.

Douglas J. Cardinal is known nationally and internationally for his signature architectural designs marked by natural flowing lines, influenced by his Aboriginal heritage, demonstrated in projects such as his award-winning St. Mary’s Church in Red Deer, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada (1990), the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Gold Medal (1999), the highest award bestowed by the profession of architecture in Canada, and the Governor General’s Award for Visual and Media Arts in March 2001.
