O'CAMPO, Patricia - Centre for Urban Health Solutions, University of Toronto Dr. Patricia O’Campo is an internationally renowned Social Epidemiologist whose research focuses on the health impacts of complex urban social problems experienced by low-income populations. Through her scholarship over the past 25 years, dedicated partnerships with affected communities, and leadership at a large multi-disciplinary health research centre for over a decade, she has advanced methodologies and generated strong evidence for effective solutions to reduce urban health disparities.

Kevin O’Neill’s innovative approach to the study of religion and politics has contributed to opening a significant new research field: the anthropology of Christianity. His research on the relationship between Pentecostalism and civil society in Latin America has reimagined the scale and scope of governance throughout the region. He is an award-winning author with two acclaimed monographs in print and four critically acclaimed edited volumes.

Keith Oatley has made substantial advances in several areas including the psychology of stress, the psychology of emotions, and readers' responses to fictional literature. He is the author of Best Laid Schemes, on emotions as they relate to people's goals, and coauthor of the leading textbook on emotions, Understanding Emotions. His novel, The Case of Emily V., won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for best first novel in 1994. His second novel, A Natural History, follows simultaneously the cognitive aspects of a scientific investigation and the emotions of a marriage relationship.

Gerbern S. Oegema studied Biblical Studies, Jewish Studies, and Religious Studies in Amsterdam, Jerusalem, Berlin and Tübingen. He has taught and lectured in Europe, Israel, the United States and Canada. He is currently Professor of Biblical Studies in the School of Religious Studies at McGill University. He specializes on Second Temple Judaism and Christian Origins and is the author of more than twenty books and co-editor of several book series.

Professor, Department of Law, Carleton University, over a period of nearly two decades had made an important contribution to several areas of legal interest in Canada, viz., the law of contract, banking, legal history, and the relationship between church and state. He is a pioneering voice for the recognition of epistemic pluralism in the production of knowledge as a basis for equitable intellectual property order. His research has wide-ranging impacts on the renegotiation of interests where formal scientific and informal knowledge intersect.

Dr. T. Oka is distinguished for his contributions to the understanding of molecular structure and molecular interactions. His theoretical study of the effect of zeropoint vibrations on the determination of molecular dimensions gave the first clear exposition of this difficult subject. He is most widely known for his work on the transfer of rotational energy between colliding molecules where his experimental results and methods have opened a new field of study which is proving important in physics, chemistry and astronomy. His present pioneer work on two-photon spectroscopy likewise shows promise of expanding into a new field of experimental physics. In radio astronomy, he shared in the recent discovery of interstellar cyanodiacetylene, the heaviest molecule found to date in space. In 1980 he has discovered laboratory spectrum of H3+ which was sought after over many years by spectroscopists. This spectrum has lead to discoveries of H3+ in Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. In 1996 he has discovered interstellar H2+ using the spectrum. H3+ is the most fundamental molecule ion in interstellar chemistry. His discovery of H3+ in dense clouds has provided the most direct evidence supporting the current theory of molecular formation. His subsequent unexpected discovery of H3+ in diffuse clouds has introduced a major enigma in the density of the diffuse interstellar medium. In the laboratory he has discovered spectra of many fundamental molecular ions including NH4+, NH3+, NH2+, CH2+, CH3+, Ch5+, C2H2+, and C2H3+.

Professor George A. Olah was the first to prepare carbocations, molecules that had long been postulated as transient species but never observed, as stable, long lived isoable chemicals. Olah's synthetic methodology allowed carbocation properties to be examined by the appropriate physical methods: NMR, IR, UV, ESCA spectroscopies and x-ray diffraction, as well as by chemical reactions. Olah's proof that the norbornyl cation had the symmetrically bridged, 'non classical' structure solved the long-standing controversy about this ion and more importantly, lead Olah to extend the Lewis concept of basicity to include sigma electrons and to the recognition that carbocations were of two types, carbenium ions with trivalent carbon and carbonium ions with pentavalent carbon.

Oleson has won wide praise for his books on the history of technology. "Greek and Roman Mechanical Water-lifting Devices" (1984) is a definitive study, cataloguing several centuries of technological innovation and engineering advances; "Bronze Age, Greek and Roman Technology: a Select, Annotated Blbliography" (1986) Is a comprehensive survey of the major aspects of ancient technology. Oleson's field research is distinguished, notably in the underwater exploration of the Roman harbours of Cosa and Caesarea, and now at the desert site of Humeima in Jordan, where he is Director of excavations that investigate the water supply and urban development of the site.

Richard Frimpong Oppong is the world’s leading expert on Commonwealth African private international law. His pioneering comparative research has opened up what was once regarded as a Cinderella subject seldom studied and little understood in terms of international academic scrutiny and interest. He is also internationally renowned for his work on regional economic integration in Africa, exposing how the absence of sound legal frameworks hinders Africa’s economic integration initiatives.
