LONG
Allan Hutchinson has challenged the elitist and formalistic perspectives of traditional legal academic and professional discourse, and proposed a more democratic vision of law and politics. His scholarship is critical but constructive, creative but technically skilled, interdisciplinary but deeply rooted in legal tradition, admirably “academic” but also popular and accessible. He engages with both legal scholars and a broader academic and lay readership, in Canada and abroad, and has influenced legal theory in general, as well as its application in judicial decision-making, constitutional law, legal professionalism, accident compensation and social justice. His voice is unique, versatile and valued.
