LONG
Daniel Brooks is among the world's most creative and prolific evolutionary biologists. Primarily responsible for modernizing studies of parasite evolution, he was a leader in developing modern methods for reconstructing evolutionary relationships, and created both the matrix representation method for coevolutionary and historical biogeographical studies, and the comparative phylogenetic approach for studying patterns of biological diversification. These research programs have found applications in medicine, pharmacology, anthropology, psychology, and semiotics. Recently, he designed and implemented a biodiversity inventory model, teaming international specialists with skilled local personnel (parataxonomists), which is being used as a template for biodiversity inventories globally.
