Often referred to as an iconoclastic economist and a maverick because of his preference for "topics far bigger than those with which most economists are comfortable", Reuven Brenner, School of Management, McGill University, is the author of many influential publications, including Labyrinths of Prosperity, Gambling and Speculation, and Rivalry: in Business, Sciences, among Nations. These examine how people's envy and greed, their fear of falling behind and their ambition lead them to undertake a variety of risks. Some gamble, or commit crimes, others become entrepreneurial. Brenner has taught at the Université de Montréal and McGill University.
