This lecture, the second in a series by Dr. James Miller, FRSC, of the University of Saskatchewan, explains how negotiation of territorial treaties in southern Ontario in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century set the pattern for a series of post-1867 treaties between First Nations and the Crown in western and northern Canada. The Upper Canadian treaties were the foundation of a Canadian territorial treaty-making tradition.
