Scholarship and Social Purpose

Extending Excellence, the first capital campaign in the history of the RSC, has provided tools to link the Fellowship of RSC in mentoring relationships with young people throughout Canada.

The $5 million campaign was launched in the fall of 2007.

Young people have been invited to participate in the core activities of RSC, and Fellows are reaching out and into deserving communities coast to coast to coast.

Here are a few examples of the outcomes of the campaign:

  • On Friday, November 14, 2008 over 300 students representing 13 universities and 9 high schools coast to coast attended the RSC Symposium, “The Cultures of War and Peace”.
  • During the 2008-2009 academic year, Fellows of RSC partnered with 9 institutional members to create 17 events to highlight the establishment of RSC’s first-ever regional chapter, in Atlantic Canada.
  • In 2008, Fellows visited with over 1,500 young women in high schools in Eastern Canada.
  • High school students from every province and territory in Canada were sponsored to attend the 2009 RSC symposium, “The Universe and Our Place in it”.
  • Delegations from all institutional member universities were invited to attend the 2009 Symposium.
