"Our Digital Future" is the first event in the 2018 G7 calendar related to digital technologies. The summit will occur on April 26th at the National Research Council, in Ottawa. Canadian and international leaders will participate in the summit and help us imagine our Digital Future, building on the G7 Science Academies’ statement entitled ‘Realising our digital future and shaping its impact on knowledge, industry and the workforce’. The programme will feature keynote speakers that will set the stage for two panel sessions. The first panel will address Transparency and Openness - the current digital transformation has led to privatization and uses of personal data that are unparalleled in the history of humanity. The panel will reflect on ways to address the issues of individual rights, defence of the public interest and accessibility, and democratic accountability. The second panel will address Inclusion and Equity of Access- an equitable digital revolution is possible only if high speed communication, digital skills, media and information literacy are accessible to all. The panel will discuss how policy and regulation frameworks around the use of digital technologies could decrease the gap between world economies, economic sectors, businesses and social groups.
