The Royal Society of Canada was approached by Minister of Science, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, for advice on the role of the future Chief Science Officer (CSO) in Canada.
The RSC’s response, prepared by the Committee on Expert Panels addressed the following four questions:
- What role do you see the Chief Science Officer (CSO) fulfilling within government?
- How would you like to see the CSO engage with the research community and the broader public?
- What do you believe should be the primary responsibilities of the CSO?
- What issues should the CSO address first?
